HIV Long-Term Survivors Day
June 5
HIV Long-Term Survivors Awareness Day (HLTSAD) is observed annually on June 5th to honor people who’ve lived with HIV for many years, acknowledging their resilience, unique challenges (like aging with HIV, stigma, mental health), and advocating for their continued needs, coinciding with the 1981 CDC report marking the start of the AIDS epidemic. This day calls for support for those diagnosed before effective treatment (ART) became widely available in 1996 and those who acquired HIV as infants.
